a reflection on what I like about poetry
good penmanship might radiate
show a certain pattern of color
that streams through a mind
comes out and wear clothes
that make it unique
it might be a prism that refracts
one beam into many
the distincts that make up the one
allowing an examination of the borders between them
good penmanship does its ink justice
letting its hues stand before time’s scrutinizing eyes, unrelenting in fuzzying its shapes
sampled in the gallery of fonts
curled to a specific taste that can only be written once
it tests the patience of the tongue that licks the quill
until the tongue makes a word for this difficulty
good penmanship is best written and served in silence
