On this tiny rock
How lucky are we to get to be able to create and listen to music
experience sleep on a rainy night or morning
sit by the fireplace on a snowy evening
feel the deliciously slow warming of the skin post immersion
the smooth and gentle swaying of bay waters
the fleeting and light embrace of a sensuous gentle breeze
of live music by the sea over the sunset
of the ability to decipher the feelings of another from the smallest yet most complex contortions of facial muscles
of discovering new favorite kinds of coffees
of discovering new favorite restaurants
of the ability to learn a tweak on the strum of the guitar that gives a signature sound
of grasping a concept and understanding how much more is unknown
of the locked-in adrenaline-infused focus to unlock a puzzle
of being able to look inward and conversing with ourselves
to think, to feel, to feeling like we are choosing, to be, and to experience
to stay in the present moment and allow ourselves a sense of wonder, even in the familiar
to realize the complexities of the cellphone, and all other technologies
to ponder the true motivations behind other people’s and our own actions
to be lulled by the sweet mellowing feeling of drowsiness, a call toward an evening recharge we know nothing about
and to fall asleep, and to be grateful to wake up when we do
because we are humans facing a great dark void, struggling to understand why we’re here in the first place
because the gift of consciousness is all too good to be true
so goes one of our guesses
