we brought down the stars
put them atop buildings
and on the sides of the streets
we built ourselves highrises
to get us further from the earth
and closer to where we left the emptiness of the stars
so we could peer down to the stars we made
we exclaimed — wow!
the vastness of the creation of our own minds and hands
yet sometimes we wonder
what it was like here before we brought the stars down
or what will happen when they inevitable are extinguished
and descend to take back their space in her space
night at her purest
without eyes to see it
