Ah the mess I’ve made
I forgot to turn off the faucet
And I didn’t fold my laundry
I didn’t think ahead on what I’ll have for dinner
And forgot my friend’s birthday today
I was angry for no reason and cried
I played my music too loud and it offended my neighbors
I didn’t tip the waiter
And I missed the deadline at work
I couldn’t remember the author of the book I wanted to recommend, nor did my summary do it justice
I stubbed my toe! God! I thought I’d have learned the art of the corner by now
I didn’t make reservations for our anniversary dinner
And I didn’t make the bed this morning
I spent more time than I should have on my phone
And I fell through on that routine I promised myself to keep
I looked at the man across the street too long
And I forgot to water my plant

It’s been a bad day
And I sit here in my mess — probably about to make more of it
But I know the earth won’t stop spinning
Neither will the sun
(right, physics?)
the combustion engines will still combust
And the palm trees will still sway
